How to: Use Laptop Battery to power the Pi

Wed Oct 07, 2015 4:08 pm

Hello. I have an old dead laptop whose battery is in good condition. So I thought maybe I could use it for the Pi as I want to make it portable. It says it supplies DC 10.8 V, 4700 mAH and it's a Li-ION Battery pack. So I need to know if it's possible to use this battery to power a pi (5v), a 7 inch display (5v), and a powered usb hub (5v) such that it will supply enough power to these 3 things simultaneously. I am currently using a 5v 2A adapter to power the PI and screen both, and a separate 5v 1A adapter to power the usb hub.

I have found this which is exactly what I wanted, but I think it won't be able to power all the things, only the pi can be powered by it.

First you will need the laptop to charge the battery. So you need to verify that the laptop charging works.
Then you will need a DC to DC converter or regulator. Search google [IBEC]
Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated RPiOS Buster w/ Desktop OS.
