Screen compatibility with official RPI case

I am going to purchase the pi2, touch screen and official case from Newark and was wondering if the screws mount nicely on top with the screen?

I contacted Newark support, they said it should work, but nobody knows 100%.

I know it's a pretty obvious question but googling/searching forums netted me nothing and I wanted to turn that into a "yes" officially.

You can combine a Pibow and the Pimoroni DSI display case. I saw them at CamJam last weekend.

I thought you could also drill out HAT holes in the official case too? (but I'm not so sure about that)

Yes expensive, it does look better on the datasheet.

They should have a case with an area for some sort of battery to power it all.

i'm sure that for whatever use someone will probably design a case.
at the moment just be a bit creative, use a transparent boy for example.

Pimoroni has a mounting (it's open back). Available in several different colors. Looks fairly nice. Price is 10 pounds, which is reasonable.

I would imagine that some decently priced backs will start showing up in the near future.

Then I just have it sitting on my desk, and the bottom-facing edge of the Pi case acts similarly to a tablet kickstand and keeps the display upright.

ah, that is the one with the totally useless fan!
Only thing it does is lowering the total current consumption of peripherals before the fuse blows, because the fan is unnecessary consuming current.

I've got one of these (needed a case that fully protected the internals for the Cotswold Jam next week) - my opinion stay away; of the 3 official ways to power the RPi and display board, none can be done because access to the display board micro USB socket, USB A socket and GPIO pins are blocked by the case.

But having paid so much, out came the dremmel and now I can access both micro USB sockets.

Trouble is, the center of gravity of the installed case is such that when you touch the screen, it falls over.

Oh, and I think it puts pressure on the touch screen chip / connector too, as my mouse pointer just vanishes periodically and only a reboot brings it back.

I have several customer support requests with farnell about this completely useless yet expensive piece of plastic. No reply as yet from them.

The Big Problem with all earliest Display Cases is that the Cable-Outputs are on the wrong side, because all manufactures had build their Cases with the 'wrong' Rotation.

Last Week the Rotation changed in Firmware so its now 180° upside down... (i know it was before flipped and now correct, but that doesnt change the Case-Problem)

I think its better to wait a little bit till new Versions of the Display-Cases will arrive

Its not really a problem. You just have to use the lcd-rotate = 2 line in config.txt. Longer term solution is that this orientation becomes the software default. That way none of the cases need to be redesigned.

It is a bit of a problem if you want that improved viewing angle from the top.

I'm also not sure I understand what you're saying, are you expecting the software to correct the rotation again? Surely the cases need to be redesigned if the viewing experience is enhanced by physically rotating the screen.
