Raspberry Pi won't respond to SSH, shows nothing on screen

I have a Raspberry Pi unit that's been sitting on my shelf for years now. I use it headless, i.e. I use it by SSHing into it.

A few days ago I tried SSHing into it and it didn't respond. Since then I haven't been able to SSH into it. Here are a few things I tried:

- I tried pinging it: Works. When I disconnect the power, it stops responding to ping. When I reconnect it, then after about a minute it starts responding to pings again.
- I tried connecting a monitor on the HDMI port and rebooting. Seeing nothing on the monitor.
- Tried restoring to the recent backup image of the Raspberry Pi. (I took this around 6 months ago when the Raspberry Pi was working normally.) After the restore, it was still in the same condition: Not responding to SSH, shows nothing on screen, does respond to ping.

Does anyone have an idea how to make this Raspberry Pi work again?

I tried reading the guide but saw nothing relevant to my problem there.

move the RPi inside
start with a fresh SDcard and hook it up to a monitor
does that boot?

then check out your old SDcard

Turned out to be a DNS problem completely unrelated to the Raspberry Pi. Thanks for your help!

There is no DNS problem which could ever be the sole cause of nothing appearing on your HDMI display.
