Model B Pi Won't Boot With New SD Cards

Hi;

I have some Model B Pi's that were donated by the Pi Foundation following attendance at a pi Academy. I have just fired one up with its supplied SD Card and it started up OK and went through it's initial setup.
Before I carried out an Update and Upgrade using sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrade I shut it down and inserted one of my newer SD Cards that I have been using on my own Model B Pi.
When I applied power the Red LED came on and that was it, it would not boot, I thought it was a fuse issue from powering it down so I left it overnight and today still the same issue when trying to power up and boot using one of my Sandisk SD cards (that work fine with my other Model B Pi.
I have just disconnected the power and put the original Element 14 SD Card in it and voila it fired up?!?!??@?

I am just going through the update and upgrade (140MB) process and will see if it re-boots afterwards.

Ok so after updating and upgrading the element 14 SD Card it still re-booted however I then inserted a 16GB SD Card that was last updated 06 Dec 14, when applying the power the Pi would not boot?? However when inserting an 8GB SD Card that was updated yesterday it fired up OK. This SD card was updated using this Pi??

Any reason why these other cards don't work but do work in the Pi that they were originally bought for??

You need a card containing post post mid Feb 15 software to boot a RPi2.

Anyone help with this, I was hoping to build up a library of SD Cards for different uses and use the in any of my Model B Pi's?
