xbian help please

Wed Sep 02, 2015 3:34 pm

I would like to install xbian onto my pi but I have been unable to get it to open the download as it keeps asking me what application to use to open it.
But I can't see which one to select on the options.
My pi came with noobs edition but all I want it to do is work as a car pc/media centre.
Can anyone help me get this application to install correctly please.

You need to create a SD Card with XBian, it is not an appliction but an Operating System:

fyi Noobs is an installer / chooser not an Operating System

That link is the one I downloaded it from.
I put it on a sd card and put it in the pi and it didn't do anything.
I rid it on a usb stick and that didn't do anything either (can't even find a directory to open the memory stick).
I did the sudo get update and spent 40 minutes waiting for it to update and tried it again after and it didn't work.
After that I downloaded raspbian on to a sd card and put it in the pi( I shutdown the pi before removing sd card that was in it) and it didn't boot up with that either, just lightsup a and does nothing.

I also tried to download both programs direct to the sd card on both the pc (running Windows 10) andon the pi (plugged direct to Internet.).
I know it must be me doing something wrong but I'm close to giving up on it, I struggle enough with my disability as it is and this is tiring me out.

Maybe that's why it hadn't worked, when it downloaded it didn't comeup with that selection screen with the choose and where to.
It just downloaded on its own to the sd card.
I did try both the windows selection and the raspberry pi2 selecting tho.
Could it have anything to do with the pc using windows 10? Could it not be a compatible os?

I've managed to get xbian to download onto the sd card but now have a problem installing it on the pi.
It starts to load up but apps just after it starts on the loading kodi stage.
At that point the screen flickers blank and the Green light starts to fade in its flashing and then it stays that way for upto 30 minds each time.
Please can some one help show me where im going wrong as I've looked on the net and there's lots of problems with it freezing.
I'm trying to get it onto the pi2 b.
Thank you, I await your responces on this matter.

.img.gz
Open the file with this and select extract.
http://www.7-zip.org/

Locate the extracted .img file in win32diskimager then select the drive letter where your sdcard is mounted.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/

Make sure you've selected the proper image for your RaspberryPi. If it still doesn't work, you might want to hop on the xbian forums and questions there.

So over the last few days I've been in contact with a ebay shop called the-pi-os-shop.
The bloke in there had been very helpful and as advised me to use the openelec programme instead as he says the xbian has stability issues on the pi2 and has recommended that I don't use it until the problems are ironed out.
So looks like it's a slight change in the programme to be used on this project For now.

I've done what I can but the openelec program I was sent doesn't do what I was wanting.
I've looked at how to get maps and software to read car ecu but don't seem to be able to get a download to work on it.
So this project is now going to be abandoned and the pi put away in scrap draw.
So let down on this project that its no longer viable to spend anymore money on it for what it is.
So me and the pi are over.
Thanks for the help but me and pi are just not compatible.

You would not use a Media Centre Operating System for OBD

I was going to try load that into a seperate os that I could switch between in the pi so could not up in either openelec or to a for ecu reading.
Seem one on Internet that read not only codes bit had all the oil, water temp, revs and so on.
Was hoping to do it on a pi for the size of it. But unfortunately a project can only cost so much before the end result isn't worth carrying on with.
