No sound from a set of powered audio speakers?

Tue Sep 01, 2015 9:04 am

I'm just setting up a Rasperry Pi 2 for my 73 year old Dad (replacing an old WinXP machine). Everything is working fine except I have no audio. Here's the setup:

- Raspberry Pi 2 running Noobs Raspbian.
- Official Raspberry Pi charger.
- HDMI to VGA adapter (to connect up the old WinXP monitor, it works fine).
- JBL external speakers, powered by their own power source & connected via the standard audio out port on the Pi.

I'm getting no sound at all, have looked in the Preferences\Audio device settings but the only option I have is:

- Soudcard BC2835 ALSA (default)

Any ideas? I know the JBL speakers are working fine because I tried them just previously on the WinXP machine.

Many thanks for your help :-)

Run raspi-config again and look for the menu item that selects between audio on HDMI or 3.5 mm socket.

Hi drgeoff,

Many thanks for your reply, and I'm really sorry to sound foolish but how do I access raspi-config again?

The truth is I've only used the Pi once back at the beginning of August; and its only now I've been able to get to my Dad's place and set it up. I've forgotten what I did to install programs (e.g. the Terminal to install Audacity), and of course the config.

I need to install kweb too so he can access car maintenance videos on Youtube!
