USB 3g Dongle

Sun Aug 23, 2015 10:20 am

Hi,
Anyone got a success in connecting usb 3g dongle to windows iot based raspberry pi 2 device?

I'm using Raspberry Pi 2 with Windows IoT, trying to connect USB 3g Dongle (D-link DWM-156).

Can someone help me in installing the device on Windows IoT for using internet.

I searched resources for Windows IoT. Couldn't find any universal driver for such devices. All I could get to know is that windows iot drivers are based on Universal Windows driver. I have to look for starting to building drivers for each device, nobody would like to do that just to use the application. So many devices available in the market for 3g internet dongle. It won't be practically possible for creating a driver each time you want to try out a usb internet dongle.

Any help is much appreciated. Please share your views.

The same problem here. I have 3 Netopia N300 Wifi USB Mini Adapters available which I successfully used with Windows 8.1 Bing and Windows 10 Home on a Intel Atom based tablet pc and with Raspian on my Raspberry 2. Since my app would be a perfect candidate for Windows 10 IoT I would like to use it in the future, but the fact of limited support for WiFi dongles holds me back from switching! My app is really useless without broader USB WiFi dongle support.

For now I would be willing to spend some time in driver development but I did not yet succeed in finding a good starting point. Any suggestions are welcome.

The official RPi WiFi USB Adaptor is supported which has the BCM43143

Though the actual post you attached to was in reference to 3G Dongles ;)

Guys thanks for your contributions. Did anyone succeed yet on this?

I badly need to configure a 3g usb dongle to raspberry pi 2 device.

I guess most of the projects would become useless if they don't have an internet connection. Many premises are not always host a dedicated internet connection.

Please suggest some workaround for me. If anyone is interested, I'm ready to join for a driver building team. Although I would need some guidance but can contribute a lot at that.

Regards
