Raspbian image for which RPi's?

Thu Aug 20, 2015 4:48 pm

Hi all,

Can i be sure that this site's latest Raspbian release works with a RPi 1 B with a 4 GB SD card?
I know it's not the latest and i know everyone recommends a larger SD card. That's not the question.

I'm still trying to login to my RPi 1 B (i think, because obviously it doesn't say on the board).
I can see it boot the latest Raspbian Debian Wheezy Release date: 2015-05-05 Kernel version: 3.18 found on https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/raspbian because there are multiple Raspbian releases from multiple sources but none say which hardware they run on.

The rasp_config isn't responding to my USB keyboard (the lock LEDs won't even come on).

And it's not finding a way to (or not using the info from) my DHCP server which is running on my router and which my smartphone and tablet have no trouble using over WIFI. And yes i have connected the Ethernet cable.

An 8GB card is recommended, but the current Raspbian image should work with any Pi and a 4GB card.

It'll be a bit of a squeeze. The unzipped Raspbian is 3GB. You'll want to reclaim some space by getting rid of some of the larger packages like Wolfram/Mathematica.

If you really want to go small take a look at DietPi or Raspbian-UA-Netinst which are based on DebIan/Raspbian but you have to add packages you need rather than removing packages you don't need.
