OpenVPN not connecting

Sun Aug 16, 2015 7:25 am

Guys,

about 2 weeks ago i got my openVPN setup on my raspberry pi, this was working all well for about a week but now it's not connecting, I have set-up 3 keys for 3 devices, iPad, iPhone and Macbook Air. however over the past week I have not been able to connect to the service. on the openVPN apps on my IOS devices and Tunnelblick (the VPN application for my mac) it will say waiting for server until it eventually times out.
I have gone through all of the setup and checked everything is a it should be, and it is.
Where should i start to diagnose the problem?

Many Thanks in advance.

Matt

I'm glad i'm not the only one having problems with a vpn. However you seem to have got further than me. Any chance you can help me get mine to the next stage.

James.

Maybe your external IP address has changed or are you using DDNS?

I am using no-ip and ddclient is running.

However, I have just logged onto no-ip and my IP has changed from the IP that i used when i setup the VPN, why might this be the case?

Thanks

So I have found the problem, it turns out my external ip address was changing, this is normal, what i had done was put the current public ip address into all of my keys where i should have put my domain supplied by no-ip, now I have changed this and re-generated my keys the system is working again.

Hello Mattsd,

Can you please tell me how to connect to a VPN service? I just got a Pi3 yesterday and I'm using OSMC only. I have a VPN service that I pay for and I'd like to connect the Pi. My provider (Buffered) does not support PI. I have been able to connect a MAC and an Android box, but have no clue how to do it with the Pi3.

Thanks very much.
