Pi WILL NOT BOOT even after reading the sticky post

Sat Aug 08, 2015 7:36 pm

I got a Raspberry Pi 2 recently and have been trying to get it to boot. At first I was trying to get Ubuntu Mate on it and when that didn't work I tried NOOBS. After countless reformats between two different micro SD cards, the ACT LED stays solid. I can't figure out what it is. I did everything the "Can't get your pi to boot?" sticky said to do and it's still the same story.

There is a very good chance that you will regret writing that you did everything the not booting sticky said to do.

99% of not booting cases are fixed by following that post.

I can't think of any other advice than to read that post again carefully. Don't skip any of it and don't assume anything without actually checking it.

What are you trying to put on your SDCard? Is it NOOBS or plain Raspbian or something else?
What process are you using to do it?

When I tried NOOBS I did exactly as the guide said: Full format, overwrite, format size adjustment on, and then I copied the extracted files onto the card. I just tried to install raspbian with the Win32DiskImager and it also didn't work.

After doing either of those, eject the card from the PC, insert it again and post here a screenshot of what Windows Explorer or equivalent shows as files and folders on it.

O.K. that looks correct to me (cf. what I've posted here:
http://www.cpmspectrepi.webspace.virgin ... ying_Files )
However you haven't stated what size of uSDHC card you're using - if it's >32Gb you will need to ensure that it's FAT32 formatted, not the default/standard format for such large uSDHC cards (common pitfall 18:
viewtopic.php?f=91&t=83372&p=651745#p677748 )
Trev.
Still running Raspbian Jessie or Stretch on some older Pi's (an A, B1, 2xB2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W, 2xP3A+, P3B+, P3B, B+, and a A+) but Buster on the P4B's. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm

So you're using NOOBS. Hit the [1], [2], [3] and [4] keys (HDMI preferred mode, HDMI safe mode, composite PAL mode or composite NTSC) during boot, stop pressing keys when a picture appears on your monitor/TV.

How big is that SDCard? Is it larger than 32GB? Because large cards need special formatting if you're trying to use them with NOOBS.

If that still doesn't work buy a new 8GB SDCard (pick a different make to the one you're using) and try again.

It was formatted in fat32, and still didn't work. I also tried pressing 1-4 but that also didn't work.

I'll probably pick up a new SD card, then. Thanks for the help!
