power for the pi

Thu Jul 19, 2012 8:44 am

Hi
I will be getting the Pi very soon and I wanted to know if I can run it from a nokia charger that has micro usb and 1200mA
The Pi needs 700mA
So will it fry it?

No, that charger should be fine. It's the Volts that is crucial not to be too high. As long as Volts are 5.0 +/- 0.25 the Pi will only draw the current it needs. If the voltage is too high, it might try to draw more than is good for it. :D
