Auto Play music

so i have a Raspberry pi B and i want to use it as a music player with ether .mp3 files or stream music from IP, i dont really know how to start, i want make the PI so when i turn it on it should play music thru the 3.5MM jack automatically when its on and play thru a stream or a play list of .mp3 songs

After finding this thread, I've taken an interest in this sort of thing myself:

MPD seems to run OK on a Pi and my intention is to use the OP's software to make an Internet Radio (that does what *I* want).

If I was you, I'd take a look at MPD, MPC, ympd et al.
