My Home Screen Looks Different

Wed Jul 22, 2015 4:33 am

I just got my Pi 2 not even a week ago and I am trying to do the basic beginner things like setting up the wifi and basic programming and I am using a lot of tutorials on how to do that. I keep noticing that everyone's home screen looks different than mine. They have shortcuts for every program and the wifi configuration tool and it looks like it makes life a lot easier for them. But I don't have those and it is making my life much more difficult and confusing. I tried updating and upgrading using sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrade but it changed nothing.

Below is a link to the picture of my home screen. If anyone knows how to get it to the home screen with the shortcuts and menu items along the bottom that everyone else has, I would really appreciate the help.

That is the "NEW" Interface which has been discussed many many many times over the last 6 months or so:

......to move the task bar just right click on it and configure
Rather than negativity think outside the box !
RPi 4B 4GB (SSD Boot) RaspiOS64 ARM64
Asus ChromeBox 3 Celeron is my other computer...

To add the shortcuts to your desktop open the menu, then navigate to the item such as LXTerminal, Leafpad, IDLE, etc. Right click on it and select "Add to desktop".

Okay, that makes life a little less confusing but a bit more complicated since I use a lot of tutorials from people with the old setup. Is there anyway to get the old home screen? Also, I dont have programs like IDLE that so many people use. Is there anyway for me to get that or is that just for the old display format?

Thanks again,

The shortcut to IDLE has been renamed to "Python" or "Python Shell" AFAIK.

• Don't like the board ? Missing features ? Change to the prosilver theme ! You can find it in your settings.
• Don't like to search the forum BEFORE posting 'cos it's useless ? Try googling : yoursearchtermshere site:raspberrypi.org
