TV tuner?

Sun Jul 19, 2015 11:27 pm

Last time I checked the PI couldn't run any of the USB TV tuner sticks. That was a couple of years ago -- wondering if that's changed especially with the new PI 2 available? -- thank you

That's wrong. It always could use USB TV sticks if they were supported by the kernel; for many sticks you have to add a firmware file. Check linuxtv.org for sticks supported by linux.

We have a much newer kernel now: 3.18 and soon 4.0, so more sticks should be supported. it's the same for all RPis.

TV Tuners with the RTL2832u Chipset have always been well supported:

Thanks very much. Just to save me headaches could anyone give me a brand name/model # that has proven to be a favorite?

-- thanks kindly

I searched on ebay for RTL2832u, found a cheap stick. Ok, from China, that isn't a problem, and it took many plus ages to arrive, but it works just fine. You can probably pay a little bit more to find one that you can get a bit quicker.
