stream mp4 video from raspberry pi to my laptop

how would i stream mp4 video files stored on the raspberry pi... to VLC media player or a browser. the client would be my macbook

I installed minidlna on my Pi2 for exactly that purpose. Also my PlayStation3 can get the video files from the Pi2 and show them on my large screen TV.
