However, I have not been able to install the Chrome web browser that has the "supervised user" capability. I would like to control where my kids go on the internet, and a white list method would be my preference. Does anyone know how that could be done on a Pi 2 Model B? Thanks, and please accept my apologies if this question has already been answered - I looked for it for a few days, and did not see anything.

The RPi uses an ARM CPU and would not consider it a direct replacement for an X86 CPU Desktop PC.
You could of bought used Windows 7 PC's for a similar price point.
Yes you can use a RPi as a replacement but not out-of-the-box, it take a lot of patience and tweaking and compromise.
Raspbian the defacto Operating System is based off Debian Linux.
Bottom line the RPi is a great learning tool and if you can convince your kids that there is more to computers than mouse pointy click and social media they will be eductionally richer.
