Accessing Pi home server from Samsung Smart TV

Thu Jun 11, 2015 1:17 am

First and foremost, I followed the instructions provided via this link: http://www.instructables.com/id/Ultimat ... /?ALLSTEPS to create a home media server using my Raspberry Pi.

If you don't want to go through that link above, the short and sweet is, I installed a linux distro with turnkey, installed a mysql server, php, ownCloud and utilized the Samba file sharing service.

Everything has gone smoothly up to the point of accessing the files from my Smart TV. I've mapped the drive on my Windows computer just fine, I can play the movies and all seems well; however, my intent here was to be able to play these files from any device connected to my home network.

When I go to my Smart TV, I can't see my pi's file server. My TV sees the shared network folders that my Windows PC has in share mode, but it isn't seeing my pi server. It was super easy for my Windows computer to brows the network and see the file share that samba was broadcasting, so I'm confused at why my Smart TV isn't seeing it.

In the Smart TV, I can simply go to Source and it sees my Windows PC, and ideally, I'd like to render the same access with my Pi Home Server that's running all the time. My assumption/guess is that there's some compatibility issue, a setting I need to checkmark or another service I maybe need to install and run that allows the folder on the pi server to be broadcasted in the same way windows openly makes the shared folders viewable on the network.

If someone could help/guide me to where I can find out how to do this, or simply tell me, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

You need to install a DLNA server.

Such a setup has been working with my Samsung TV for two years already.

• Don't like the board ? Missing features ? Change to the prosilver theme ! You can find it in your settings.
• Don't like to search the forum BEFORE posting 'cos it's useless ? Try googling : yoursearchtermshere site:raspberrypi.org
