Battery issues on a wildlife cam project

Mon May 25, 2015 7:22 pm

Hi,

I'm hoping this is the best place for this....

I've built a wildlife cam using;

An original model B Pi
Pinoir camera board
LED IR light (12v)
12v to 5v step down for powering the Pi
12v 4800ma battery pack

Running on mains, everything runs fine (I'm using a script to compare images then fire a high res pic if different).

On the battery pack though, it runs for 5-6mins then all stop. I did flick the battery off/on whenIi tried it again today and it ran for 2hrs before I shut it down.

Any thoughts? I've put a meter on it and battery drain is very low. It should last 5-6hrs by my rubbish maths!

What was the current used @ 12V from the battery with everything, including IR light running?
