Broken Pi

Sun May 24, 2015 2:02 pm

I have 2 Pis, an 'A' & 'B' with broken SD card readers. I followed some info on the web to remove the reader from each, intending to solder in a new reader. However, either my soldering is nowhere good enough, or I have removed the metal from the contacts, because new solder will not stick. Does anybody have advice, or could anybody make use of these 2 otherwise OK Pis. I am loath to put them in the bin!

Unfortunly enless you can fix them you are out of luck. Maybe someone here or in your local area can fix them for you.

Lastly maybe a Mod can chime in and let us know if anything can be done.

Wish you luck...

Post pictures please, so I can see if you should be able to recover the pis.

I hope these help. The Pi on the right is the Model B, but my soldering is presumably not good enough, because it will not boot. The A on the left has apparently lost the conductor on each connector, so I appear to have taken too much off when unsoldering the original card reader. The picture is rather small, because my first attempt was 3.1MB and I tried to upload it, I received a message to say that the maximum is 2MB - it reduced it below that and was then told that the maximum is 64KB!!

I see traces ripped off from several resistors (R46 etc) did you repair that damage? also you didn't clean the solder flux with (an alcohol based) flux remover, so its hard to see what you did.
