Edge Lit Display & RaspPi

Hi all! My middle school Tech & Engineering class is attempting to create edge lit displays similar to these: http://www.billporter.info/2013/03/24/o ... terpieces/

We're making them as center pieces for my program's annual dance (kinda like a prom, but not a prom). 10 tables, so 10 center pieces.

I know there are LED strip options for controlling the colors and patterns using a remote, but these seem limited to a couple of strips. My students will be using 3 strips of LEDs per display for a total of 10 edge lit displays (but also might make a few that are single strips).

So now I'm wondering, would it be possible to control the LEDs (color and/or pattern) with Raspberry Pi, (I also have Arduino Uno and Trinket boards that are unused).
