Android XBMC remote and OpenELEC

Thu Jul 12, 2012 4:04 pm

Can anyone point me in the right direction for settings needed to get the Android app to control xbmx?
Ive tried selecting all the options foe controlling from remote etc but theres nothing there to tell me how i configure the app to talk to it.
I know the pi's ip address but thats about it

Thanks.

I vaguely remember that I had to go into settings in XBMC and enable web control (or something to that tune), take note of the port it enabled to listen for control and then input that port into the android XBMC app. Beyond that google is full of documentation and guides for doing this. From what I recall it was a fairly straight forward process, but one of those documents should be able to help you get past any hurdle if you get stuck ;-)

Ok cheers mate, I've got several pages open with info I'm gonna wade thru and will have a look at those web settings when the little'uns go to bed.
I did read one thing that mentioned enabling a Web Server so it all sounds pretty logical.

Thanks.

Definately confirm the port number too, in "allow control of XBMC via http".
I noticed it was either 8080 or 80 depending on whose XBMC disto you are using. It was easy for me to overlook at first.
Raspbmc and Openelec use different port numbers.

Can confirm that it was just a matter of enabling the web control option and noting the port and username, connected instantly. Just a shame that when i browse say videos on my app it doesnt show my usb stick. Also found that although the quality is excellent when its running YouTube crashes for me quite a lot once i select a video, have to do a total power down :-(
Think these media players are great tho, especially on such a cheap (and small) device :-D

i'm running xbmc on Rapbmc and i had a bit of an issue with the youtube plugin(it would crash) so i couldn't watch anything on youtube. I reinstalled the plugin and it worked, don't know if you've tried that , but it might work.

I've been trying to get the app to work with my Raspberry but the gui freezes before I can navigate to the settings page with my keyboard. I've tried the last 4 releases but they all do the same thing.
However, I was able to get the app to work with Ubuntu on my laptop. I just don't know the default username, password and port number OpenELEC listens for. If someone could provide me with these I would be very appreciative.

in the android App set the host to the IP Adress of the Pi, port 80 and save.
in OpenELEC enable webserver in System-> Services
by default there is no username or password required.
get the latest release from here :http://openelec.thestateofme.com/

you may also wanna check yatse android app, it has more functionality than the official remove, like browsing the library, keyboard.

Thanks so much! One more thing, I haven't tried today's release yet but if control via http is disabled by default I have no way of turning it on because it keeps freezing. Is there an ssh command that could do this or must i use the on screen gui?

Sorry, i do not know where is that option stored. But i do know that latest OpenELEC builds are stable and fast so it shouldn't freeze in the first place, you should check your power adpater make sure it is at least 1A, remove any overclocking configurations, usb devices, that the Pi has an ip address and try again.

lastest builds

Thank you. Just realized I've been using a 5.2 volt and 0.8 amp supply. :$
