When you connect the wifi adapter to your Pi is the power on or off? If you plug in the wifi while it is powered on your problem could be due to a poor quality power supply. What is the spec of the power supply? It could be a power supply problem but I could not say for certain. To avoid problems it is safest to turn off the power before connecting the wifi adapter.

I have an LB-Link BL-LW05-5R1 adapter and I have been able to get it to work on all 7 different versions of the Pi's I have, although I had to use a powered hub on my original Pi which has fuses on the USB power.

600 ma is not enough for the pi and the USB. Get a good 2A power supply off Amazon.

I have to agree with kusti8 that you need a much better power supply. 5v 2A would be ideal.
