Setting Up Pi 2 Model B on old TV

Mon May 04, 2015 7:28 pm

Hi guys,
Greetings from India, i have recently come to know about raspberry pi , and i am planning to buy Model B, there is one issue which i am really unsure about. I want to know whether i can connect my Pi 2 Model B to my old LG tv, it doesn't have a HDMI port but those three Red, yellow and white cable slots which were used around 10 years back. Kindly help me in this problem. The local reseller here in india is selling the Raspberry pi 2 model B with 4Pole 3.5mm to 3 RCA Video/Audio Cable in the starter kit. Can i use these cables to get a display on my old tv? The link of the seller is http://www.greenindiaelectronics.com/rpi2-starter-kit here you can check the details. Please tell me about this. Thanks a lot everyone.
Regards
Ahmad Hanif

If you look at the picture of the kit:
Image
there is a white lead with a 4pole headphone jack on one end and three separate connectors at the other end. That is the "4Pole 3.5mm to 3 RCA Video/Audio Cable for connecting to TV".

Plug the headphone jack into the socket of your Pi2.

Plug the three outputs into your Red, yellow and white slots.

turn on your Pi it may autodetect composite output or you might have to manually change it.

You will need to press the [3] or [4] key to get NOOBS to switch to analog video during the first boot.

Ok i have ordered my very first raspberry pi. Two more things i want to ask to both BMS Doug and Dougie lawson. What are [3] and [4] keys and where are they located?

Secondly if i dont connect my raspberry pi to an ethernet cable and plug in a usb wifi adapter during the setup, will it be fine? I dont plan to update the rasbian version which is supplied with the sd card straight away. And will i be able to connect to my wifi after the first boot?

I am a newbie, so kindly bear with me.

Yes, if you install Raspbian you don't need a network cable or wifi dongle. You can set it up right from start.

The [3] and [4] keys are on the keyboard that you have to connect.

They're on the keyboard between the [2] and [5].

Or on the keypad (if you have one) to the right of [2] and below [6] on the bottom row and to the left of [5] above [1] and below [7] in the middle row.

Don't encourage his sarcasm, it's bad enough already.

Yes, the easiest way to configure WIFI is through the GUI but there are two other ways as well.

GUI = Graphical User Interface.

Hi guys, i have setup my raspberry pi 2. One more thing i want to know. I want to install ubuntu mate 15.04 on another sd card for my raspberry pi. Is the procedure same through windows? Like formatti the sd card first, then copy all the contents of the image file to the sd card and booting with that sd card.
I have searched a lot but couldn't find a procedure to install via windows. Please help.

It's a img file. I would stick with NOOBS and Raspbian for now, until you learn how to use dd/Win32DiskImager. https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentati ... ng-images/
