Protecting the GPIO

Tue Apr 28, 2015 2:38 am

Hi

Can someone please have a look at the schematic and tell me if this will protect the pi from my bumbling? I am planning to source 3v3 to feed some momentary switches. These switches then go to GPIO pins setup as input and with pull down resistor. I plan to add a 330ohm between switches and the 3v3 so as to limit current. Also added another 6kohm as a pull down from GPIO to GND.
The zener and the normal diode pairs are to prevent voltage going above 3v3 at the GPIO and also to prevent electrons from one switch going backwards and activating other pins.

I might be completely wrong. In fact I am most likely wrong and hence posting here before I burn the pi. Will this circuit provide protection from me accidentally connecting 3v3 to the ground or some other silly mistake like that?

Thanks
