It is a Windows issue nothing related to the RPi, complain to Bill Gates, thankyouhoosiermomma71 wrote:My husband has his Raspberry Pi 2 all hooked up. He is trying to network his Windows 8.1 computer to the Pi... Window's 8.1 has a HomeGroup, now...Raspberry Pi is wanting the WorkGroup of his computer...do you see the problem? He has tried to rename the Domain: HomeGroup, to WorkGroup, and tried to put that in Pi, but it doesn't work. He tried using OSMC, and Raspbain, I think was the name of the application. Neither of these have helped us. No matter what operating system he puts on the Pi....when he goes to network to his PC...run into the same problem. He even tried to do a direct link from Pi to his computer using a Cap5 wire...but still nothing...Pi is still wanting the User name and Password for the Domain: WorkGroup. Can someone please help me, so that he does not drive me insane, for three days, he's been nothing but angry and frustrated.
I do not use Windows unless have to, but found this guide, you may find additional information in Windows orientated forums:hoosiermomma71 wrote:okay can you give me a link as to how to turn off the homegroup, and turn on the Workgroup?
Windows Home Edition supports workgroups out of the box. Backwards compatible to W7, Vista, XP, W98, W95 and Windows for Workgroups 3.11 and Samba on Unix/Linux (and the Raspberry Pi uses that)...hoosiermomma71 wrote:Okay...he was on Microsoft site, turns out Windows 8.1 Home Edition does not have WorkGroups, only HomeGroups, but Windows 8.1 Pro Edition does have the WorkGroups, so now that I know, his operating system does not have WorkGroups, how do we figure out a way to network the Raspberry Pi 2 to work on his computer. Anyone with any suggestionsand I don't need any smarmy comments, just help please.
Yes as I originally stated it is a Microsoft issue, not an issue with the Raspberry Pi Operating Systems pare-se.......hoosiermomma71 wrote:thank you...he claims he tried these solutions, and I am at my wits end. I no longer care if he gets the thing running but for those of you who have tried to help, thank you so very much, I will let him figure it out. Also, I did find I am not the only one having this issue, seems there is the same situation on another website, only there were able to express the problem better than what I was able to. For anyone who is having the same issue, please look to this link. http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=98737
