root password

Tue Apr 07, 2015 4:49 pm

I am having problems finding an answer to this. My searches only come up with changing the root password for Raspbian but I want to know -- does root even come with a default password? If not, is it wise to set a password? I've turned my Raspberry Pi into a web server and just want to lock it down. Would it be safer to not set a root password and leave it as it is out of the box, or to just set it.

The default setup has the password removed. One of the first things I do is set one. If I wanted to secure things, I'd probably leave it unset and have a strict sudoers file.

If you are trying to lock the Pi down, leave the root password unset.
