Picture but no sound

I've successfully connected to my Raspberry Pi from my desktop and everything seems to be working but I have no audio. I'm assuming the videos in the Raspberry Pi help menu have a sound component to them.

How are you connecting to your Raspberry Pi? Are you using VNC or similar? If so, VNC doesn't transport audio. To hear the audio output you will need to attach a pair of speakers/head phones to your Raspberry Pi.

Thanks for a prompt reply Andy. I do have a VNC connection and was not aware that it does not transport audio.

You should be able to get sound through RDP since that protocol supports it. Haven't tried it on the pi though.

Yeah, if you can get x11rdp working, that should support audio over an RDP connection.
