Mesa and DRM driver for VC4

Sun Mar 22, 2015 6:45 pm

I was having a go at building the mesa driver being worked on by eric anholt following his instructions http://dri.freedesktop.org/wiki/VC4/. They are oriented towards raspian but i am naively translating to arch.

The building of mesa fails because it cant find libdrm_intel. I think it wants this because eric is basing his work to some extent on his previous efforts with intel driver i965 (?). There doesn't seem to be a libdrm_intel.so anywhere presumably because it is thought to be unnecessary.

Can it be reinstated or is there a way that I can build it for my self ?

Arch does have a libdrm package, called just libdrm. You might need to modify the code in source to call that instead of libdrm-intel, and install libdrm.

I did seem to get it working... you can see how I built it here: http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewt ... 82#p719782

./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr --mandir=/usr/share/man --infodir=/usr/share/info --sysconfdir=/etc --libdir=/usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf --localstatedir=/var --disable-silent-rules --build=arm-linux-gnueabihf --with-gallium-drivers=vc4 --with-dri-drivers= --enable-gbm --enable-xa --enable-va --enable-vdpau --enable-omx --enable-shared-glapi --enable-gles1 --enable-gles2 --with-egl-platforms=x11,wayland,drm

Thanks for that. I think Im going to have a go compliling mesa with vc4 support by taking the pkgbuild from https://github.com/archlinuxarm/PKGBUIL ... extra/mesa and adding
--with-gallium-drivers=vc4
and see how far I get. Sadly I lack any deep understanding of this stuff and just have to take simple steps.

This
--with-dri-drivers=
actually seemed important if I remember correctly, otherwise it tries to build intel stuff automatically.

Does Raspberry Pi 2 B use the VC4 driver by default?

Not at the moment, no. I believe that when it is finished and stable that it will become part of Raspbian, but I could be wrong. See this thread.

This stuff is still under development at the moment, so is not installed by default in anything.

Why can I use the uzbl-browser in raspbian jessie on raspberry pi 2 b to watch video online without a lot of lag and doesn't use the webkit provided by the foundation?

If some one release Anhold VC4 related kernel or for raspbian build (with deb files) then this can be very useful. This is not order. If someone capable and release. I'm not using desktop computer. Lots of compile process tired me. If we can use development driver may be this is good for better bug report.
I cant using enough English language. My writings can be wrong grammer.$
