Playing MP3s, videos and using a browser

Fri Mar 20, 2015 11:22 pm

I'd asked earlier today about how to be able to use a browser and XBMC. Some kind people answered but the response was too advanced for me to understand. Rather that waste more of you gurus' time I thought I should ask a different question and then in a few weeks I may know enough to get back to my original question.

New question: what should I install to get a browser, a file manager and something to play MP3s and videos?

I'd need something that assumes I know 2% of what you know about Raspberries. I know .05% but I'm working on the rest.
Thank you

If you'd like to do all of these things then you might consider not using an XBMC OS. Raspbian may be more targeted at your desires. There is a web browser is already installed and many others can be installed (I prefer Iceweasel and Chromium because both provide the ability to set up an account so that Bookmarks follow you from system to Linux system to system and OS to OS). In Raspbian you can also install many different MP3 players and video players, such as VLC, Clementine, Audacious and so on. In Raspbian you can also, from the terminal, install "synaptic" package manager, with which you can view applications by type, such as "World Wide Web" for browsers (such as Iceweasel, Firefox and Chromium), "Graphics" for VLC, "Multimedia" for Clementine and Audacious. And so on.
