RPi Tablet Power Consumption

Wed Mar 18, 2015 3:29 pm

Hello all!

I have plans to put together a sort of tablet using the Raspberry Pi 2 Model B and I have some questions concerning power consumption. I plan to use a 7-inch non-touchscreen usb-powered display from Adafruit that draws 600mA. I also need to power a wifi dongle and a wireless mouse/keyboard combo dongle (uses only one usb port). I found two usb battery packs built for the RPi on Adafruit. The more expensive one outputs 2A and the less expensive one outputs 1A. Would 1A be enough for the Pi, the display, and the dongles? Are there any cheaper mobile power supplies that I could use?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Never mind. I calculated that the tablet will draw probably around 1500mA. (600 for the screen, 600 for the Pi, 150 for each dongle). I suppose I'll have to go with a 5V 2A battery pack. Suggestions for battery packs are still very welcome, though.

i have the 5 inch touch version and while it works very good, the hdmi ends up sticking way out which annoys the hell out of me, maybe you can find a better solution, just something looking ahead

I just finished making a tablet, and I just used the power supply that Michael Castor used, not noticing that I shouldn't (and maybe can't? It probably depends on my charger) charge the power supply while using it.

I wrote up my project so far at http://meanderinglaser.weebly.com/tablet-build.html

The battery is this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009US ... storcom-20

Hopefully that at least gives you another option
