SD cards

Sat Mar 07, 2015 8:01 pm

I just bought a CanaKit Model B+ Pi. However, the SD card is way smaller than my SD card slot (I have a MacBook).
How do I connect the SD card to my Mac so I can download Raspbian onto it?

Thanks!

You may get away with a micro-SDHC to SDcard adapter (as shown in the link below**) or need a "USB-stick-like" uSDHC card reader:
like H, I or O here:

Still running Raspbian Jessie or Stretch on some older Pi's (an A, B1, 2xB2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W, 2xP3A+, P3B+, P3B, B+, and a A+) but Buster on the P4B's. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm

The kit came with a USB stick...Could I utilize that somehow?

The only 'USB stick' that I can see is actually a USB wifi adapter.

So that won't function as an adapter?

So, then, is there anything in the kit I could use to hook up the card to my laptop? Or will I need to purchase something?
If I do, do you have any links or suggestions?

Thanks very much!

Any microSD to SD adapter or USB microSD reader should work, check the links FTrevorGowen posted so you know what you are looking for.

According to the link to the kit you posted it appears to come with a micro-SDHC card pre-loaded with the NOOBS installer** which should boot up and install Raspbian for you - no download needed.

So, I can just put it into the programming board and get started with the programming?? How would I go about doing that?

Sorry if I seem ignorant, but this my first time doing this and I don't have a teacher!

Thanks so much!

Start by watching the video at http://www.raspberrypi.org/help/noobs-setup/ - that should help you install the O.S. eg. Raspbian.
How you choose to program will depend upon what programming languages/ methods you have some familiarity with.
