Not enough disk space on new SD card

Thu Feb 19, 2015 12:25 pm

Hello there,
New user, bought a 4GB SD card, with latest version of NOOBs already installed. Tried to install Raspbian, but error message stating it needs 2512MB. Looked at previous threads, and deleted other OS that we won't be using for now, but this made no difference - same message.
Thanks
Peter

you need a much later version of noobs than you have [probably] .... even then
just download and use raspbian direct
no need for noobs on a small card

Thanks Rattus,

It's the latest version (I believe). Sorry - not sure how to use Raspian direct, as on start up, just get the option of which OS to install...?

Still a newbie - so really appreciate your help. Peter

You need a bigger card than 4GB to run with Noobs. 8GB is recommended.

You can run an individual OS on a 4GB card via the old school image installer. Raspbian recommended.

Thanks Pluggy. I've deleted all other OS, just leaving Raspbian. But still shows at only 2500MB available on a 4GB card....?

Hi,
if you only want to use raspbian, which I would recommend as the first pi os to use and get to know, I would forget about what you have already on that SD card and write a new raspbian only (ie not NOOBS at all) image to use, from the download page. When it first runs up you will see the raspi-config menu running and at the top of the menu is the option to 'expand the filesystem'. This will automatically adjust the partitions to make full use of your chosen SD card.
Hope this helps,
Texy

I would also suggest not to use NOBS and just install a standalone Raspbian OS Image

Downloads link, top of page, scroll down past NOOBs (or NOBs, using it's derogatory name). Download the Raspbian Image. Follow the intructions here : http://www.raspberrypi.org/documentatio ... /README.md

Raspbian comfortably fits on a 4GB card without the baggage of NOOBS.
