Trouble Booting (I read the boot sticky)

Hello,

I am having trouble booting a brand new Raspberry Pi 2. I get stuck on the color splash screen and it does not proceed from there. I have read the boot sticky. I have verified power (5.18vdc) as well as the red LED staying lit. The Green LED also stays solid (I know that this means that there is an issue with the SD). I have used two brand new micro SD cards - 1. Lexar 16 GB Class 10 2. Samsung 16 GB Class 6. I have used the appropriate software to wipe the cards. I have tried installing the latest version of NOOBS (unzip file directly to the card) and Raspbian (using the recommended software) on both cards. With Raspbian I have gone in and modified to the config file to include a 1 sec boot delay like some recommendations have been. I am at the end of my rope and not knowing what else to try to get it work besides returning it to the seller and trying a different Pi 2.

You are sure this is the latest NOOBS? What version is it? Try and download it again and try again.

I am downloading the latest software from their (Raspberry Pi) website. When I get home I will delete the files and redownload.

Just downloaded the software twice and still no success. Each time I am completely deleting (using the overwrite feature) the SD card prior to loading. It is looking like the only possible solution is to send the unit back and try a different one.

Hi, I have the same problem:
Copied Noobs from this website to a new and with sd formatter fresh formatted micro sd-card.
starting my rpi with this sd-card, i get only the blinking rainbow splash screen.

if i try to start with the downloaded raspian, it will start with text lines, but it stops with an error. i don't know the right error message...

what is wrong?

How would anyone know if you don't tell us what the error message is...

and / or tell us what the msg is...

So you also get an error messsge and don't know what the error msg is?

Please give more information. From just a 'me too' it's impossible to diagnose a problem.

I use sandisk 8gb 10 and kingston 8gb 10 micro sd-cards and a Anker 36W 5V / 7.2A 4-Port charger

yes i know. it should be a hint that i tried several solutions.
it would be enough to install noobs on my raspberry with 8gb card an the anker charger, which has enough power to run the raspberry!?

Can we stop the thread hijacking here with people posting "I have a similar problem", you do NOT have a similar problem!
I have received several complaints about thread hijacking.

Hanging on the rainbow screen means you are using an incompatible kernel, it means the GPU works, so booting actually works, but when the GPU starts the CPU no ARM code is executed, or the code crashes.

so far all cases have been resolved to wrongly written images.

posts not about hanging on the rainbow screen will be removed, as are the offending posts, after 24H when the posters have had a chance to copy paste their question to a new thread, but do read the boot problem sticky first.

i don't understand exactly, but I was at the end of my rope, too...

But my solution:
I think it's an error in the zip-file, why noobs doesn't work!
I compared the extracted content with your screenshot. In my folder I found 'recovery7.img' which is not in your screenshot. I deleted it, and now it seems that it works!!!

@colmans, okay, you seem to have had the same problem as the OP, so the complaint didn't held up.
By the way, English isn't my first language either.

I'm curious about the part the "recovery_7.img" plays in all this.
I asked a specialist to look at this thread, maybe he knows more.
Still it still holds there isn't a real problem, in the sense that the PI2 does something fundamentally different/wrong, and when using a correct boot image it WILL boot!
Perhaps the OP can try if he can replicate your solution.

Hello,
Thank you for all the help. After returning the Pi and exchanging it for a new one I was able to install NOOBS 1.4 with no problems. I have booted the unit multiple times with no issue.

This happened to me after I corrupted the /boot/cmdline.txt file. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do other than completely reinstall the OS from SSD card.
