Youtube no longer supports Epiphany?

Fri Feb 13, 2015 8:23 pm

I haven't been using youtube much lately. However, today I visited the site with Epiphany only to have it report to me that the browser is not supported. When did this happen? And what alternative browsers are you people using?

Head to http://youtube.com/html5 ignore any warnings and switch to HTML5 for videos.

Then head back to the one you'd like to play and enjoy it with a nice cold beer.

Ok. My bad. I had not seen the above mentioned warning page before, so I thought that it is some change, but it seems the only change was that I was using a new pi 2 and the cookie/login was therefore not set.

Youtube doesn't like the epiphany (and kweb3) user agent. But there is an ignore button on that page.
On kweb3 you can simply change the user-agent. The application page of the coming 1.6.3 version has a few buttons with predefined user agents to make it easier.
Minimal Kiosk Browser (kweb)
Slim, fast webkit browser with support for audio+video+playlists+youtube+pdf+download
Optional fullscreen kiosk mode and command interface for embedded applications
Includes omxplayerGUI, an X front end for omxplayer

The browser wars continue.

Recently Firefox was switching users from Google search to Yahoo search. This made a lot of people upset because in many cases the switch happened covertly. It's hard to chalk this up as coincidence when Firefox recently went from being funded by Google to being funded by Microsoft.

I am wondering if the browser warning messages on Youtube are an extension of this corporate conflict. Rather than picking sides, it's easy to see that we the users are paying the price.

Youtube should be more responsible than this in my opinion. This warning is effecting a lot of people, most of which don't have the technical skills to understand that they don't need to bother with the warning and can simply click on the "NO THANKS" button to continue (in most cases). Very disruptive. You would think the html5 version of youtube would simply load by default when it's needed. Unless of course they have another agenda...

It's now 2015. Why are we still encountering flash requirements all over the Internet? Was it a good thing that Google put Pepperflash into Chrome when all it does is slow the transition away from open standards? Oh wait, that's another topic... :?

That doesn't make sense to me. Shouldn't they have moved to Bing if that were the case?

As Bruny hinted at...

Yahoo search is currently being powered by Bing.
