How are you running Kodi, from the desktop, terminal or auto-start at boot ? Are you running Raspbian Jessie ? You can turn the debug on in kodi and check the log file.
I got distracted a bit
The problem is still present on my kodi and I am surprised it is not fixed in the latest builds...
The problem is: whenever Kodi shows a virtual keyboard (search addon dialog, etc), it does not accept keyboard input and treats it as player shortcuts, for example - space is always a pause and it never enters a space character. I doublechecked permissions:
aik@aikrpi ~ $ grep aik /etc/group
I checked all the steps from setup guide, all is there, tried without addons, no difference.
Answering your last questions:
1. I run kodi via a shortcut in XFCE, the process is "/usr/lib/kodi/kodi.bin --lircdev /var/run/lirc/lircd"
2. yes it is jessie debian (PRETTY_NAME="Raspbian GNU/Linux 8 (jessie)")
3. I turned debug on, tried typing "space" in a search window and got this:
20:53:54 72609.132812 T:1944420352 DEBUG: Keyboard: scancode: 0x39, sym: 0x0020, unicode: 0x0000, modifier: 0x0
20:53:54 72609.132812 T:1944420352 DEBUG: OnKey: space (0xf020) pressed, trying keyboard action f020
20:53:54 72609.132812 T:1944420352 DEBUG: OnKey: space (0xf020) pressed, action is Pause
And "Pause" is what really happened.
Kodi version is:
aik@aikrpi ~ $ apt show kodi
Installed-Size: 28.2 MB
Maintainer: wsnipex <email@example.com
Any way to fix the problem or it is just by design? Thanks.
