not sure what's up with that. this is actually the first time i've seen or used lxde so i'm not sure where stuff is yet or whether it works or not. i'll do some digging around and see what's what.

perhaps i shouldn't have used the debian with lxde iso but rather should have used one with gnome or kde. My thinking was that lxde seems to be the de of choice on the raspi so might as well use it in the vm. perhaps that wasn't such a good idea after all

it looks like that the debian-installer-launcher is only for when you are running off a livecd and as the vm is running from a "harddisk" it won't work

I guess you meant "setxkbmap fr", right ?

It perfectly works for usual keys, but unfortunately not for the AltGr combinations that are used to enter characters like ~#{[|\@]}, which are pretty useful to program software

Any more help please ?

if you are just doing a make or a configure then you don't use the -eR options you just do
sb2 make

the -eR means don't use any host binaries except for qemu and pretend to be root which you only use if you want to install new libraries to use for later builds.

however if you have setup scratchbox2 with a full rootfs seed rather than the one from the codesourcery toolchain then the sb2 -eR make would work as you'd have the make binary in the rootfs however you still wouldn't normally use the -eR option unless you were installing new s/w or libraries to the rootfs.

I probably could have been a bit clearer in the README.

I am trying to build ruby 1.9.2 which seems like it has some prereqs that might require those flags.

The problem I ran into specifically was
make: *** [.rbconfig.time] Segmentation fault

which is what led me to look into the possible missing dependencies.

yes ruby, perl and similar programs are a bit of a pain to build in scratchbox2 as they need some stuff run on the host and some in the emulated environment. your best option if you want to build things like ruby is to switch to a full rootfs which will have a full set of linux utilities to help with the build process where you can then use the -eR option pretty much full time if you wish or build and install ruby without using scratchbox2 and then build in scratchbox2. In your particular case because you'll have a lot of dependencies that the codesourcery toolchain doesn't supply and that you'd have to build yourself i'd go with the using an arm squeeze rootfs and either apt-get ruby or build from source but apt-get'ing all the dependencies using sb2 -eR apt-get ...........

My guesstimate would be we've served about 50 VMs in 2 days. Thanks to the 10-15 dedicated seeders . And kudos to ukscone on a VM well done : no "don't work" SOSes... except mine :-p

yes you really do need a reasonably fast computer with a fair amount of ram to make the experience with virtualbox fun (i'm using a dual core turion64 laptop with 3gig of ram with the vm image on an external usb hd and it's ok but nothing to write home about, usable but not fantastic). however windows qemu running an armel rootfs with gcc and other bits and pieces isn't too bad on most netbooks other than the cheapo 400Mhz chinese mips based ones.

I'm currently running this on VirtualBox on Windows 7, I have an i5.

I can say it was remarkably easy to get working, however I had to disable internet. I'm new to this whole thing and I've set it up as a side project to get this working as a semi-decent emulator like the GP2X.

I've only done 5GB, though I've been seeding permanently at high priority. No seedbox, just my regular 80 KBps adsl connection. I currently see 12 seeds and 7 leeches which is fine.

I don't even remember who put them up nor find them on the forum, but the debian-arm-gnome-en-uk.rar torrent is showing 172 leechers... One of the recent PR stuff must have it !
On a side not, for some reason I'm connecting to no leechers. I'm seeing tracker.publicbt.com and openbittorrent.com, peer exchange and DHT enabled... there must be a private torrent in the mix ?

BTW do you have info on using this VM? I just finished setting up qemu-arm and haven't tested it yet.

As far as I know this vm is x86 architecture (due to /proc/cpuinfo), so it is not like the Raspberry Pi...

Thanks for the distro it worked great. Why is the ram set to 384mb when it should be 256mb since the Model B will be 256mb?

Just some information, I was able to get minecraft working on this version but it was very laggy.

The virtual box image does not emulate ARM. I don't even think it limits processor usage to 700 MHz.
