I've built a virtualbox vm using the instructions on my blog post http://russelldavis.org/2011/0.....pberry-pi/ with a couple of small mods to make it a bit easier to use.
It's currently uploading to my remote server and as it's 1.3GB it's going to take a few hours. It should be completed by around 11pm eastern saturday the 10th of september.
Once it's uploaded you can find it at http://russelldavis.org/2011/0.....velopment/ and don't forget to read the README.
If someone wants to turn it into a torrent i'd be quite greatful.
Edit (obarthelemy): putting this up here so it jumps at you...
The torrents are up:

Great, once it's there I will download and try it.

Re: Virtualbox VM for the RaspberryPi
That's great news, thanks a lot.
I can do the torrent with residential 80 kByte/s upload, 24x7, at least until I move in 10 weeks. I'll post it here when I get the files.

Re: Virtualbox VM for the RaspberryPi
thanks. it is the HOW to make a torrent. 6 years of actually downloading via bittorrent but i've never actually made one
really should learn how to one day but today is not that day.
[i've put all my upstream bandwidth into the upload and it's got about 6h50m to go. i'll have to watch the QI night and Dr Who tomorrow as i can't d/l when all my upstream is being used.]

Re: Virtualbox VM for the RaspberryPi
I have a seedbox I can throw this on once I get a copy.
Re: Virtualbox VM for the RaspberryPi
the upload has completed so the vm is available for download. I did forget one important piece of information in the readme. I have setup the directory /home/raspberry/raspberrypi-development/build for you to build s/w in and the build directory is symbolic linked in /var/www and apache2 installed and running so that you can get files easily off the vm

Re: Virtualbox VM for the RaspberryPi
I've started downloading to create the torrent, but the DL is slowish (50 kbps), so it'll take 6+ hours before the torrent is ready.
Edit: the speed seems to be pickup up gradually, so it may be quicker than that.

Re: Virtualbox VM for the RaspberryPi
i'm not sure how much bandwidth my hoster has allocated me but it's not that great especially when he's seeding his stuff. it probably would have been quicker to copy the zip file to a thumb drive and take metro-north to connecticut and hand deliver it to the server.

Re: Virtualbox VM for the RaspberryPi
Indeed. It started @20 kbps (15hrs), went 50...110... now back to 30 (10 hrs)... it'll get there when it gets there I guess, sometimes tommorrow.. which reminds me it's 5:30 AM my time, i'll catch a few ZZs and come back, good evening to you.

Joined the cause and helping to seed this though I'm using my own rootfs. (once it actually find some seeders to download from)

Re: Virtualbox VM for the RaspberryPi
The torrent is behaving a bit erratically, with upload going from 5 to 70 kbps all the time. I'm not saturating my up bandwidth, which is weird 5 connected leechers, and 12 unconnected ones.
It IS moving ahead, just slowly and by bursts.

Re: Virtualbox VM for the RaspberryPi
i've just joined although it tried to d/l about 800kb in the ova file when it should have been exactly the same. not sure what was up with that but we'll find out when someone tries to import it into virtualbox

Re: Virtualbox VM for the RaspberryPi
I sure didn't change it... it's certainly runoff from the demonoid.txt file that got "fragmented" together with the ova.
Highest leech at 13% after 3 hrs. Things should speed up for newcomers as more people join the torrent, but take 7-8hrs for the first customers.

Re: Virtualbox VM for the RaspberryPi
Initial seeding complete. 8 seeds and 15 leechers right now. Someone sure came to help with a bang, I was at 30% upload when a couple of extra seeds popped up. Thanks.
Re: Virtualbox VM for the RaspberryPi
you are seeing 8 seeds? i only see 3 and a couple seemed to hit an run.

Re: Virtualbox VM for the RaspberryPi
yep, still 8/17. My upload has stabilized around 70kbps too, with the swarm getting larger.
Re: Virtualbox VM for the RaspberryPi
I'm getting 200kbs + now

Re: Virtualbox VM for the RaspberryPi
SUCCESS !
I installed it successfully, and ran the browser and OpenOffice Writer successfully.
a few gotchas:
- I imported the VM as is, even though the predefined chipset did not match mine. It worked except for USB. I guess those are virtualized.
- The VM kept complaining about me needing to download some extra files in order to support USB2. I failed to see the "extension pack" on the download page at first; it's actually right below the "platform packs" on their DL page. Alternatively, you can disable USB2 and just keep USB1.

Re: Virtualbox VM for the RaspberryPi
couldn't find where to set the keyboard layout to French/France.
Re: Virtualbox VM for the RaspberryPi
yes you'll need to have the extension pack for usb. guess i should have documented it
you might need to mess with the settings of the vm after importing it with regard to network, cpu.... most should be ok but you won't have the same networking devices as i have. the guest additions should be ok though.
admin password??? you mean root password? i put that in the readme along with the user password. i expect most people will change them.

learn english then
seriously though i believe this is how to do it http://forum.lxde.org/viewtopi.....#038;t=623
or this
mkdir -p ~/.config/lxsession/LXDE/
cp /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE/autostart ~/.config/lxsession/LXDE/
leafpad ~/.config/lxsession/LXDE/autostart
add "setxkbmap us" at the end and save

Re: Virtualbox VM for the RaspberryPi
Mmmm... read the readme... a very subsersive idea... Thanks though ^^
The debian installer doesn't seem to be working at all, nothing happens when I try to launch it, though it does ask for credentials.
