rpi3 wifi issues

My pi 3 doesn't see the on board wifi adapter.

I have tried "iwlist wlan0 scan" it comes back as "wlan Interface doesn't support scanning"

I have also tried "iwconfig wlan power off" it came back with "Error for wireless request 'Set Power Management' (8B2C) : SET failed on device wlan0 ; No such device."

I'm running a known working February image of Jessi with wireless working on a raspberry pi 2
I have also used a usb wifi dongle on the pi 3 and again the wifi works.

I have run all the latest updates on the pi 3

Does this mean my new pi 3 has a damaged onboard wifi adapter? or have i missed something?

Check for any messages (dmesg).
What is the output of 'ifconfig -a'?

I'm running a known working February image of Jessi with wireless working on a raspberry pi 2
This doesn't seem to be the current Jessie image.

I think you're missing packages that are needed for wlan and bluetooth.
What did you do to update your image?
Can you try it with the current image?

In addition to this: for bluetooth you need 'pi-bluetooth'.
Not yet sure which package you need for wlan though.

The mmc1 device isn't being probed which means you have outdated software (or have a custom devicetree overlay that prevents probing emmc on gpio 32-39). Old software will boot on a Pi3, but with incorrect device tree data.

I have the same problem. No wlan0 recognized, neighter in Raspbian nor Raspbian lite or OSMC. Pretty much the same output of

First try the following

# Remove the Driver
modprobe -r brcmfmac
# Load in the Driver
modprobe brcmfmac
# Check Dmesg for any errors
dmesg
# List all network ports
ifconfig -a

If you see an error in the dmesg log like this, then your likley missing the needed firmware files
brcmfmac_sdio mmc1:0001:1: Direct firmware load for brcm/brcmfmac43430-sdio.bin failed with error -2

In that case go to https://github.com/RPi-Distro/firmware- ... 80211/brcm
and download the brcmfmac43430-sdio.bin and brcmfmac43430-sdio.txt files into the directory
/lib/firmware/brcm/ then try again

Any idea how "outdated"? I just received a Pi3 and swapped it with a Pi2 FULLY EXPECTING it to not work at all. To my surprise it did (and I've been trying to figure out all morning what was going on) because everything worked (Although I had some curious error messages) I've since destroyed all trace of what I had before and the pi 3 is now running just fine :-)

Tried that, but can't find see any error related to brcmfmac. Neighter on a fresh install of Raspbian, nor after (overwriting) existing brcmfmac43430-sdio.bin and brcmfmac43430-sdio.txt. All I see is multiple errors "mmc1: error -110 whilst initialising SDIO card"

If you see an error in the dmesg log like this, then your likley missing the needed firmware files

Tried that, but can't find see any error related to brcmfmac. Neighter on a fresh install of Raspbian, nor after (overwriting) existing brcmfmac43430-sdio.bin and brcmfmac43430-sdio.txt. All I see is multiple errors "mmc1: error -110 whilst initialising SDIO card"
If you reboot the Pi without powering off (do sudo reboot) does the behaviour change?

i had to run:
sudo raspi-config

then I selected 9 Advance Options from the menu

then I selected A5 Device Tree and ENABLED it

then ran:

sudo reboot

It found the network when it came back up

Pretty sure this is a "simple" issue of device tree not beeing enabled.

In a shell do
$sudo raspi-config

Then select item 9, Advanced Options
Select item A5, Device Tree
Choose Yes
Reboot

Good luck!

PS If any of you (like me) have issues with the serial port /dev/ttyAMA0 not working, then _disable_ device tree. Seems we can't have both WiFi and serial working right now....

$sudo apt-get update
$sudo apt-get upgrade
$sudo rpi-update
... and reboot
You have probably done all this, just want to make sure as it seems especially firmware are quite frequent now...

Still: nothing. I even tried deactivating and reactivating device tree.

But when I run ifconfig -a, all I get to see is "eth0" and some "lo" (a L this is, I guess).

dmesg still throws multiple "mmc1: error -110 whilst initialising SDIO card". Can't find anything abut this error online, but one of that kind with a different number, an old one thought, seems to be related to wifi.

The country code setting for wifi should do nothing to whether wlan0 is found or not, can it?

So far I tried only not setting anything (defaults to...?), UK and usually DE, as that is where I live.

I had issues when moving my SD card from my previous RPI to RPI3 so I took a new (32 GB) SD card, installed NOOBS installer and then installed Raspian. Then did the apt-get update/upgrade and rpi-update. I got the WiFi working doing this way (dead easy really, the WiFi icon was visible in the upper right corner). If you just want to eliminate HW issues, sometimes starting from scratch is the easiest. Have you tried this?

Good luck and hopefully your RPI3 HW is OK, if not you are probably one of the very few (one in thousands?) that got a bad RPI.... Hmmm, I really would think that WiFi was tested at the factory... Close visual inspection for shorts, solder balls etc. would follow (and possibly carefully / lightly brush the sides of all components with a new, dry brush (e.g. a toothbrush)). But this is grasping...

Probably silly to ask but... Have you got a > 2A USB supply and no hats installed? And nothing more than just ordinary USB KB/mouse attached? Not a problem I've seen personally but some seems to have problems when using the same USB supply as on earlier PI's

Again, good luck and don't give up easily ;)
