How to upgrade from version 14 to 16 ?

KODI is multimedia software and the upgrade path varies depending on what you have actually installed as an Operating System.

The Raspberry Pi is hardware and not upgradable..

When turning on the system, it reads OpenELEC

Going from 14 to 16 is probably going to mean having to update manually as I'm not sure if automatic updates spans major version changes. Have a look at the link below and see if it makes sense to you. If not, get back to us and I'm sure someone will be able to help.

You need to go to the openelec websiteand download the latest update file. Enable samba on your pi, and then drop the update tar file in the update folder on the pi.
