Even better is experimental "Gadget" Mode, just a OTG Cable needed:

I wouldn't do that. The second pi isn't getting enough energy. Either not enough voltage or not enough current. Also the pi zero won't complain if its not getting enough energy - it just acts strangely.

Yeah, don't do it.

Seems to work fine for me. I have a good power supply and the pi zero only pulls around 200mah which is less than my 3g Dongle that I use with the pi2.

If my pi2 was maxed out or had loads plugged into it I could maybe see that. But all I have is the zero and a WiFi adapter and the 2 isn't doing anything taxing.

Wish I could explain it better. Well, good luck. Keep an eye on their uptimes.

You don't need to. I'm no noob. I'm a Linux system administrator I have over a dozen pi's and have had one since the initial batch in 2012. ( which is now in a data centre in Austria with 525 days uptime.)

I understand perfectly well how sensitive they are to voltage drop etc I have corrupted many SD cards and reflashed them in 5 minutes. That never stops me playing :-).

It's pretty amazing. It's a 3d printed one. I brought it off a guy on Etsy for £13 plus delivery.

I got some stickers coming to put a Pitendo logo on the flap.

Balderdash and poppycock. I ran my Zero like that for the first week with an ENC28J60 attached so that it could reach the network. The Zero was only cut loose from it's umbilical cord when the WiFi dongle and the USB-B / microUSB shim turned up.

Ah! Sorry, I thought you were. Your question was.

I had a 'footnote' I didn't post. And that is if properly wired it can be done. But I didn't want to complicate things. Many USB cables use cheap 28 gauge wiring.

But I still wouldn't do it. *

* without a good reason.

This is what I love about the internet.

One guy says a thing works because he's been doing it for ages without problem.

Another guy says "don't do that" because, well, no good reason.

Great.

I was going to write "One guy's corner case is another guy's ..." but I don't know the antonym of corner case.

My Zero was running from a 2B with max_usb_current=1, a good USB cable and the 2B powered with the official 2.1A power supply. I'll stick with my balderdash and poppycock assertion because it is balderdash and poppycock that is being emitted by the Solar3000 unit.

In case anyone is interested I have made a Pitendo logo for the front flap of my case. I have printed them onto clear laser sticker/decal paper.

I have attached the files in case anyone wants to print their own.
