bring flash.ffu to SD card fails

Fri May 01, 2015 1:18 pm

Hi,
after downloading a Win10 Desktop 32 bit and installing on a PC, i wanted to flash an SD with Win10 IoT

The given command:
dism.exe /Apply-Image /ImageFile:flash.ffu /ApplyDrive:\\.\PhysicalDrive3 /SkipPlatformCheck

Brings an error 1688: element not found.

The SD card is connected ia external USB Reader, it has 2 GB

any hints?

Tried it again with a 16G Card, same error.
The CMD.EXE has Admin rights
in the DISM.LOG, there are 2 error lines
- ... CGenericImagingManager::InternalCmdFFUApply
- ... CGenericImagingManager::ExecuteCmdLine

the full log is:

Installed now W10 ADK with flash tools.
Also tried the included GUI-based Flash tool.
It does not show the Card-Writer in the device-list - but it is found in the DISKPART - list.

DISM is v.10074
Now an other message is in dism.log:
GenericImagingManager processed the command line but failed. HRESULT=FFFFFFFF

What i want to note is, that the PATH variable remained unchanged. That would mean, that the DISM utility in the Programs \ Windows Kits\10\ ... is not used?

There was one user who had a problem on one system which had set the language to Dutch, but when they tried on another system with English as the default that unblocked them:
https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forum ... WindowsIoT

We are looking into the error they were seeing, but for the time being maybe you could try a different system to see if you get other results.

Here you all go:

These are taken from Windows 10 Preview ADK

1. cmd > DISKPART
2. DISKPART > LIST DISK
3. Note Disk Number of desired destination disk (we'll call it Z)
4. Download: http://1drv.ms/1KKQDdb (**Note: This includes the .ffu file for RasPi2**)
5. cmd (Admin) > cd [folder you extract the zip file to including the final DISM directory] <-- Keep Note Of This For Next Command
6. C:\Users\MBRO95\Desktop\Win10\DISM> C:\Users\MBRO95\Desktop\Win10\DISM\dism.exe /Apply-Image /ImageFile:flash.ffu /ApplyDrive:\\.\PhysicalDriveZ /SkipPlatformCheck
(**Note: Z is the disk number found from DISKPART & The full path to the dism.exe is specified in the above command**)

Hi every body.
I have just tried the step by step instructions written by a very knowledgeable member "MBRO95", and it worked absolutely fine, writing the image to the SD Card that is, I will give you some feedback as soon as I execute it on my RasPi 2.

Best regards to all

What do you see? Can you post a picture?
Saying that its broken doesn't help.

Get your SDCard on your Windows system, find the config.txt on it and add

Code: Select all

hdmi_safe=1
save the file, eject it from your Windows system and see what happens when it boots.

I created sd card in windows 7.
I tried to boot on Pi, it runs, but display doesn't appear correctly, it is broken.
What do you see? Can you post a picture?
Saying that its broken doesn't help.
Screen is not synchronized.
I installed Windows 10 on my laptop and create sd card again.
I have got same result.

Shutdown (or pull the power). Get the SDCard on your Windows system. Edit config.txt and add

Code: Select all

hdmi_safe=1
save the config file and reboot it in your RPi.

Get your SDCard on your Windows system, find the config.txt on it and add

Code: Select all

hdmi_safe=1
save the file, eject it from your Windows system and see what happens when it boots.
I tried it when I added hdmi_safe=1, Raspberry doesn't boot.

Then you'll need to boot it with Raspbian so that we can use the tvservice -m CEA && tvservice -m DMT command to determine what modes your HDMI monitor/TV will run with.

We can then add

Code: Select all

hdmi_group=xxx
hdmi_mode=yyy
to config.txt on your Windows SDCard to force it into the same mode.

You could try

Code: Select all

hdmi_group=2
hdmi_mode=4
to force it into 640x480 @60Hz.

I tried it. Start screen appears, no keyboard and mouse.
After I tried hdmi_mode=39, which is 1360x768.
I tried with wireless usb keyboard and mouse.

I am trying to follow MBRO95's instructions but "dism.exe' gives me a "Access is denied" in the terminal window along with a pop-up that states "dism.exe is not a valid Windows32 application". I am using Win7 on a x64 machine.
