RaspberryPi2 - Dead after two weeks (mostly) idle

This weekend my RaspberryPi2 died. I used the latest Raspbian image from the official web page and let it run for almost two weeks without any load (except an OpenVPN client).
Maybe I simply got a "Monday's product", as we say here in Germany.

My question is: Does anyone of the new Pi2 owners also have this issue?
Some first experience reports about its stability?

(Additional question: I already bought a MPG2 key for the broken raspberry. My money is gone, am I right?)

If a new SD card doesn't fix the problem, then return for a warrantee replacement. AFAIK, there haven't been any other reports like this, but given the number sold I would expect some failures in the field for faults that cannot be detected by the production line.

Not sure about the MPEG key.

What do you mean by "died"?

Do you see anything on the monitor screen if it starts to boot? Did you try another SD card or power supply?

Thank you for the reply. No, a new SD card does not fix the problem. The Pi also gets really hot without any SD card inserted. That should not be normal I think?

Edit: Thank you for the advice. This is my 15th (?) raspberry, so the typical causes for failures can be excluded.

really hot usually means it has been shorted ! - is it in a case

I'm suspecting a bad solder joint somewhere that was OK when manufactured but has since failed in long term use.

Yes, it has been in the same case at the same place like a B for over a year whithout shutdown and without any issues. Also, no overclocking has been done so far. The case has lots of holes for providing enough air flow.

I'm not entirely sure that almost fully automated productions lines have that sort of a problem...!! Those pick and place machines though, can be a bit...picky....

My RaspberryPi 2 looks to have an intermittent fault on the USB bus - USB devices aren't always registered on boot or insertion, when registered they also randomly drop out and reappear. Same goes for the ethernet port (discovered when attempting to trace the problem. I generally use a wifi dongle).

Ordered it the day after it was announced. Noticed there was a problem a few days after receiving it when network shares kept disappearing. Have swapped the SD card, wi-fi dongle, power supply, checked routers, etc.. Contacted the supplier and am currently waiting for them to confirm I can return it for replacement.

This is my fourth Pi and the first I've experienced a problem with. Given the number sold, I guess it's only reasonable to expect a few duds that sneak through quality control.

Well, the weekend starts at friday afternoon and ends at monday... afternoon. Sounds valid to me.

Nevertheless, I still am looking for an answer to my MPG2 licence key question.
