Odd constant square in upper right of screen...

Wed Feb 11, 2015 4:44 pm

I got my Raspberry Pi 2B's, and built microSD cards for them, and have run both. Performance is great, and everything is as expected...

Except that there is a small square near the upper right of the screen on both that is colored red/yellow/blue/green, with the colors fading into the ones next to them. This square is visible over any other window there, and is still there when the screen times out and blanks.

Anyone else seeing this behavior? And, if someone has any information about it (like how to turn it off...) I'd love to know.

Is the red PWR LED illuminated on the board?

No; The system runs perfectly fine, but just has this square in the upper right.

Yes, it is; follow the link PeterO posted:
When using a B+, and the Raspbian GUI and a "rainbow square" appears in the top right corner, then that is also an indication of a power problem, as is the PWR LED suddenly blinking off.
It' the same for the Pi2B

Same reason. The Pi isn't getting enough power. Probably a cheap and not quite good enough micro USB power cable.

The same happens to me with a Raspberry Pi 2.
Any idea if its a malfunction or configuration?

I experienced the same problem. The power supply was supposed to be 1.5 Amp.
After changing PS for a new one the squared on the top right has disspeared.

You have to take into account that there are many PSU's out there which are not able to deliver the current they are rated at.
Generally you get what you pay for............

Also, make sure your USB cable is decent quality. Even the best PSU in the world cannot make up for a bad USB cable.
