Squeezelite with lcd and lirc support

Thu Feb 27, 2014 10:15 am

Hi,
as most of you already know Squeezelite is a really good Squeezebox player with a good compatibility but lacks of a GUI with lcd and lirc support.
On the other hand, Squeezeslave provides a good GUI for 2 line LCD but struggles with out of the ordinary audio files.

So here is the mix of both. I used the source code from Squeezelite and added the bits from squeezeslave GUI to have the best of both worlds.
Here is the github repository : https://github.com/fpasteau/squeezelite.

Just follow what is written in the README file and you should be able to compile it.

If you compile the source code without the OPTS=-DINTERACTIVE options, you will have exactly the same squeezelite player as the official one.

I tested it on Ubuntu and on Raspbian but it's likely that there are some bugs inside the code, so feel free to correct some stuff if you want.

To get all the possible options of squeezelite, just type ./squeezelite -h

I hope it'll be usefull to some people.

Hi - I could not find a documentation about how you attached the lcd.
Could you please give a hint?

Currently I'm running a headless Squeezelite client. It's running very stable
and I would love to add at least a display, if not a few buttons to locally
control it. Most projects that I saw are based on mpd however.

Regards, Tobias.

Hi again,

here's a pic of my (semi-)headless squeezelite client that works with the squeezelite/squeezeslave clone you supplied (thanks by the way).

The display is controlled by LCDd - works beautifully.

Now my question - in the LCDproc documentation I found some hints, that I can control buttons via LCDd, too?
Does anyone have information how I can configure this? I's love to build a "complete" client using LCDproc and this squeezelite clone.

Hi,
Really nice setup, don't hesitate to send more pictures :) . Tell me if you manage to make it work with lirc. If it doesn't work, I've just remembered that there is also a (less nice and more annoying) way to add interaction with buttons using a python script that send commands using telnet.

Nice work on the display!
The squeezelitehf.sh script I use in my tutorial has a couple of functions for changing between favorites and changing the volume.
Might be usefull for making buttons work.

Hi Gerrelt,

actually I am using your script already to start and run squeezelite as a service.
Thanks for providing it by the way!

As for buttons - I decided to use a small remote control using lirc. This is already working,
I now just need to integrate the IR sensor (which is a squeeze in the case you saw on the picture).
The LCD fits quite precisely behind the front plate really.

Hi - there was a call for more Pictures - here goes.

The case is the same as in this project.

Seeing this published inspired me to do something similar. The difference is the Raspi model B+, the Display and the IR sensor.

Still to be done is the Integration of the IR sensor in the front panel. You can see it will be a tight fit, but it seems do-able. I will send new Pictures when I'm done with it.

I am currently struggling with squeezelite on my raspberry PI. I would like to set it up to be controlled via GPIO - Lirc and a remote control.
Could somebody please give some more details or internet links how do set Lirc up to steer squeezelite respectively Logitech Media Server / Squeezebox Server?
I set up Lirc following this link: http://ozzmaker.com/2013/10/24/how-to-c ... ir-remote/
But no I got stuck, how to control squeezelite?
Any help is highly welcome!
