So they finally dropped the price for this useless piece of streaming junk.

I honestly don't understand the appeal for GCC it's a dumb crippled OS device needing a smart phone to play videos.

Considering you could do exactly the same thing with a Android Box / Stick TV or Raspberry Pi anyway what's the point??

Actually Casting from Google Chrome / Chromium Browser and ChromeOS is supported, so it is not just for Android 4 / iOS Smart Phones

So using that to start is no disadvantage.

In fact it's like everybody having a remote
(We all have mobile phones - so anyone can start a film/show/youtube clip on the big screen)

Also it's not quite like airplay as you can turn the phone off after starting.

Works well for us, and does netflix which rpi doesn't. ..

I do have a mobile phone, but it won't work with any sort of remote device. (As I tell people...I don't have a smart phone. I have a dumb phone. It's useful for making phone calls.) And I don't keep it on my person at home.

On the other hand...I don't own a TV, either, so no sort of TV dongle has any utility at all for me.

Whether or not one has a suitable SmartPhone is immaterial, the reason for posting is the price is now three fifths of the original..

Also can watch BBC iPlayer as well as Youtube, which is a better experience than from my Pi !

Thanks for the headsup on this. I've ordered one from Tesco. The effective cost to me is £9.50 as I used £8.50 Clubcard vouchers doubled up to £17. (Almost always there is never anything we want in the Boost scheme and the vouchers get redeemed at face value against the weekly food bill.)

Off-topic but it does surprise me how a certain segment of technical people don't have or like smartphones, including more than one IT managers I've worked with.

My Volvo (probably) has more processing power than your smartphone. Do I love it? Not really - it insists on blasting my feet with cold air unless I let the windscreen mist up, and the sat-nav won't show me what's in the field right beside me.
My Vectra let me have warm feet and a clear screen, and my paper map tells me it's an Iron-age fort.

I doubt it does have more processing power! Current mobiles are ridiculously powerful, cars computers don't need to be.

I have a Smartphone (Nokia 808 running Symbian, great camera), but the WIfi is broken and I refuse to pay the high charges for data (at the moment)

And I am quite techie.
