Raspberry Pi Users in Shanghai, China

Wed Jul 04, 2012 6:21 am

Hi there,

Last time when I received my Raspberry PI from Shunfeng Express. I was told by the delivery man he had several pi on hand to deliver. I know from this there are definitely some Pi users in Shanghai.

Do you wanna to gather and talk on RPI by replying on this post? :D

Cheers,

That's my hometown !!
But unfortunately I am not there.
I haven't got my little 'Pi' yet, but I know I have to get one!
Would love to share experiences and ideas thru the Internet though! And let me know how your tinkering goes :P

Cheers!!

Shanghai calling!

I am introducing the RPi to the students at my A level school near Fudan University in Sept. It's going to be an after school club. I have just taken delivery of mine and got it up and running. The peripherals are so cheap here. I just picked up a new keyboard, new mouse and new power cable all for under £4. If my trials go well over the summer I will be buying a handful of the Chinese ones from Taobao (Chinese version of eBay).

I have already bought a camera and motion sensor although after reading some earlier posts I believe there are some fake ones out there (surely not - this is China!). As they say here "If it can be made, it can be copied".

So I am looking for some other people in Shanghai to troubleshoot with and to exchange ideas. I have persauded the man in my local second hand PC kiosk to buy one and he is going to but we don't share a common language well enough to help each other.

Is there anyone out there? It's a big city - surely I am not alone.

Yes, we get red ones here in China but green ones are freely available on Taobao. I am introducing the RPi to the kids at school so I decided to get a green one so it looks difference to the ones the kids have. You can get a green one the next day for just over £21. http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a23 ... s=1#detail whereas the Chinese red ones are a bit more expensive.

Eben and I are visiting China for a press trip in August, and we'll be visiting Shanghai as part of that. There's a Raspberry Pi Users Forum at RS Components' head office in Shanghai on August 11 in the evening, where we're looking forward to meeting local users; I'm not sure how you would go about getting tickets (I can't read Chinese!), but I'm sure that if you email or call RS in Shanghai they can sort you out.
