Remote secure access using tablet

Sat Jul 26, 2014 10:58 pm

Hello,

I use my Pi to remote access from netbook using ssh etc.
I would like to setup my Pi and I can access it remotely using my tablet (it doesn't have ssh).

How can I do it?
I was thinking to access a web page that the Pi would have, I can provide username and password and then it'll allow me to access securely the internet. I don't know how can I do that (programs to use etc).

If there's a better way, please let me know. I don't know how to search-start the project.

Thanks

Depends on your tablet OS. If it is iOS, then a simple search for ssh will yield a lot of results. You could also get a VNC app, run tightvncserver at startup and login like that.

What do you mean when you the that the keyboard does not work. Is it external or internal. What VNC client and server program did you use? If you search google play, a lot of ssh clients come up. Don't have an android, so trying my best.

Have you configured a VNC Server in the Operating System installed on the Pi ? This is for Raspbian

Alternatively an XRDP Server can be used instead

Android has many Apps available with varying functionality, it is finding one which suits..

I haven't done anything yet since I didn't know how to proceed.

Well, installing vnc to pi and android tablet is a solution. My concern was that if android will show me the prompt of the keyboard to type to vnc. I'm not sure since vnc login to another "computer" and use that. I hope I'm wrong. Will test that for starers to see what happens.

As I told before, the other thought was to do that something like hotel or internet cafe. When I open a specific web page, it'll prompt me for username and pass. When I give them, I'll "login" to the pi and everything I surf, it'll be from the pi connection.
I was thinking squid but I might be wrong.

That's why I told on the top, I don't know how to search it. But I'll start using vnc first.

I think you want shellinabox - a shell inside a website with SSL
support. It is available via apt-get.

Note that VNC and RDP are unencrypted by default and
completely insecure to use over the internet.

You can just use the android app "ConnectBot", it's a SSH client.

I use VX Connectbot

And Hacker's keyboard

On my Pantech Element tablet and have been very happy with it's performance.
I was unable to get port forwarding to work on the original Connectbot app which was important for me to be able to tunnel my vnc connection.
