Re: 500 Members!
I thought it was pretty cool this morning when I opened my browser to discover that the forum membership size had just topped 500! Pretty cool indeed.

I'm sitting here with a very happy grin. Let's hope that number continues to climb!

Re: 500 Members!
Congratulations indeed!
It might even be worth recording the rate of user growth against the dates of publicity you gain from other websites, and then make sure that all future (important) press releases make it to their staff.

We're doing that - there's a lot of traffic-monitoring software running behind the scenes and a growing press list.

Re: 500 Members!
There is an awesome community rising up I see. This reminds me of the maemo forum. I really can't wait to get my hands on the tiny little device. I always wanted to code but never got the time to begin learning programming. But with this thing it's going to be different.

better start culling the mailing list otherwise there won't be enough pi to go around. I suggest anyone whose forum name begins with E, L, M & S

Add "u" to that cull list to be fair! It's his idea!

Re: 500 Members!
I'm welling to bet that a large percentage of the forums' readers haven't bothered registering yet, either. I've followed the project for a while now, but only registered recently!
I imagine that membership will increase pretty dramatically once the actual board is released, since people will want a place to muse about their experiences, projects, etc. It'll be fun to see what the hardware modders come up with in the future.

On 27 Sep you had 2001 members. When you go past 2038 you may go negative. Please start shipping before then.

Re: 500 Members!
Any chance you will implement a one-per-member policy at the start so there will be enough to go around out of the initial 10,000? Each current member ordering five units will wipe out your first run, and with our enthusiasm level and the Rpi low cost, that's not an absurd scenario. Especially when all the lurkers show up for theirs.

Re: 500 Members!
@CERN You're right - I've met a lot of our lurkers at meetings and trade events. It's enough to make you sit bolt upright when a total stranger says: "But you said…"
@Rickyjames (and I owe you a PM - thanks for your generosity!) The current plan is to limit sales in the first 2 weeks to people who are prepared to buy-one-give-one so we can ramp up production. This isn't set in stone yet, but it's probably the best of the ideas we've had for managing demand.
