I,m not sure. A small percentage of the displays I buy do not work at 48mhz, which they are not spec'ed to anyway. You could try 32mhz or lower. Also how long are the wires you are using? Too long and signal loss could be a factor.

That was it, i eventually had time to try the new configuration with lower frequency. It works correctly at 32Mhz. Thanks a lot Texy

I just got the screen from ebay, bought from you,
Is there a way to control the touch screen over vnc?
I get different screens, when I connect, one for vnc one for the touch screen

Note, I'm noob at this :)
Thank you, Alex

Hi Alex,
I am assuming you have the desktop displayed on the 2.8" TFT. Which vnc server are you using? The tightvnc server will create a new desktop that is not the same as the one you see on the display. If you want to control the desktop displayed on the TFT from another computer you will need to use x11vnc. You could follow this guide. However, don't make the suggested changes to /boot/config.txt (i.e. completely skip steps 8 to 12).

Hi again Alex,
One thing I missed from above. If you have tightvnc starting at boot, you will should disable that before setting up x11vnc. There are a number of ways that people run tightvnc at boot, so post back if you need help disabling tightvnc.

I have installed successfully the image in the first post and I have configured the Raspberry with Samba, MLDonkey and other thing. All is working good. :)
How can update the image to the latest Raspbian version of the 2014-06-20 without damage the original image?
Thanks

A new update version will be available at some point. However any individual packages you use can be updated using the usual methods. Also rpi-update will bring kernel to latest without harm.

Thanks for the reply.
So, I don't have to consider anymore the red note in the first post?

That is only applicable if you start with a pure raspbian image. If you download notro GitHub image then you will be fine. Any doubts and backup before making any changes.

Just a quick question.

I have managed to get the display working with an image i use for a prototype product i am working on.

I come from the windows .net background and am 'new' to linux.

i can get the pi to boot and run the guy as usual but it does not run in 60 dpi.

how can i change the DPI when it boots.

i have added
DISPLAY=:0 xinput --set-prop 'ADS7846 Touchscreen' 'Evdev Axis Inversion' 0 0

works fine but wrong dpi

if i start the session withFRAMEBUFFER=/dev/fb1 startx -- -dpi 60

great.

Any help??

Help needed ...

I would like to use raspbmc with a RPi-Display - 2.8" Touch-Display for Raspberry Pi (320x240) from watterott (http://www.watterott.com/de/RPi-Display), to steer xbmc.

I followed the step by step description from http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewt ... 20#p447220
The kernel changed from 3.12.21 (of 11 June 2014) to 3.12.3+ (of 8 December 2013) is this a problem?
I used for fbcp the file from http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewt ... 50#p445550

When I start "fbcp &" I get a white display, nothing else.

I changed the settings in /etc/modules to "speed=32000000", no difference.
I changed the settings in /etc/modules to "fbtft_device custom name=fb_ili9341 speed=32000000 gpios=reset:23,dc:24,led:18 bgr=1 rotate=270" as described on https://github.com/watterott/RPi-Display#spi-mode, the display stays black.

I rebooted my raspbmc with and without HDMI connection, no difference.

What can I do to get the xbmc screen on my display?

Just to let you know:

The Touch Shield Board (got this one: http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewt ... 45&t=69014 including the RTC) works perfectly on the new Model B+ Pi. No re-configuration at all (swapped the sd-card), plug and play :)

Network port isn't working though, but that seems to be an other problem...

Thanks for that. I received my B+ today and can confirm it is compatable. One thing I needed to do though was

Code: Select all

sudo rpi-config
to get the latest kernel that supports the new usb/Ethernet chip of the B+. The sd I was using was from January this year.

Hi,

I've been trying to set this up with arch linux, with the idea of creating a squeezebox controller like this https://github.com/ggalt/RaspberryArch/ ... ive-Player.

I've not yet managed to get anything onto the screen. I've got as far as entering

Code: Select all

sudo modprobe fbtft_device name=hy28a rotate=270 speed=48000000 fps=50
but receive
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'fbtft_device': Invalid argument
I've been searching and found people with similar issues, but noone with a described solution.

dmesg shows:
[ 720.660443] fbtft_device: SPI devices registered:
[ 720.666958] fbtft_device: 'fb' Platform devices registered:
[ 720.672827] fbtft_device: bcm2708_fb id=-1 pdata? no
[ 720.680215] fbtft_device: spi_busnum_to_master(0) returned NULL
[ 720.687515] fbtft_device: failed to register SPI device
Can anyone point me in the right direction to get the display working please?

The screen is great.
I am developing an extension to control mopidy from the screen.
It is working fine.
Have in mind that the extension is not fully developed and I am quite new to python :?

Hi Alex,
they would not normally be used at the same time. The TFT board was designed primarily for portable use, ie when hdmi screen is not available. If the Pi detects an hdmi device it has a preference to send display data to it, as a higher priority than the TFT display. You can experiment with fbcp, but it's been a long time since I connect up a pi to my TV.

I had it working before, and don't know how I've did it. Both screens were working at the same time, But the desktop were different.
I remember doing this by installing vnc server and doing some configuration from a tutorial.

I recently ordered this board from texy (thanks again!)

For my project, I managed to squeeze it into the case I was hoping it would fit into. Yay! Pictures:
http://i904.photobucket.com/albums/ac24 ... f7da22.jpg
http://i904.photobucket.com/albums/ac24 ... cf5f74.jpg

Now I need to connect it up to the pi and get it displaying. I probably should have done that first, but I was impatient to see if it would fit! :D

You can see from the pictures that I needed to cut off the bottom row of the header pins that, making that un-usable. From my inspection of the wire traces, it looks like all of the display pins connect directly to the center connecter, so I think my cut will not break any traces going to the display.

I plan on just connecting a cable from the pi to the connecter on the center of the display board. If I need to access the additional GPIO pins I will need to use a splitter cable or something.

Anyway, I will update again with my experiences getting the display working.

The display started up no problems using the custom image supplied in the OP. I was extremely impressed how easy it was.

I was able to get the latest updates and install mplayer, and videos worked and looked good/fast!

The only issue was the blinking curser is displayed on top of the video. Is there a way to turn this off? I found a console command to turn off the curser, but it only worked on my SSH console that I typed it into.

I will be investigating this tonight.

Hi i'm as of now a very novice, raspberry pi user, linux user, and coder. I purchased the pi TFT28 v2a and im having problems with calibration. The x and y apeer to be locked up on one position on the screen. please help!

Code: Select all

xres = 320 yres = 240
Took 1 samples...
Top Left : x = 1850 y = 0
Took 1 samples...
Top right : x = 1820 y = 0
Took 3 samples...
Bot right : x = 1958 y = 0
Took 1 samples...
Bot left : x = 1976 y = 2
Took 1 samples...
Center : x = 1907 y = 4
467.160522 -0.151873 -15.212067
-1870.701904 1.048248 -2.723183
calibration constants: 30615832 -9953 -996938 -122598
320 68697 -178466 65536
I'm not an expert by any means but those numbers seem very wrong

Hi,
have you used the pre-configured image, or have you configured raspbian, as per first post instructions?
Have you re-run the calibration routine?
