The answer is simple.    First the GPU has the capability to do composite but not VGA (and I don't think it can do S-video either) since not everyone has HDMI, it's a good idea to bring it out.

More importantly, however, one of the goals is to spread the use of computers to underprivileged countries.  One very interesting thing one discovers when traveling through such countries is the wide spread use of TVs.  So while composite is become archaic in say the UK or US or Canada, it's still very popular in other 2nd or even 3rd world countries

Would anybody like to read a thermal study I did on the Raspberry Pi?
Basically I've baked one Pi at its probable upper thermal limits for 24 hours. The idea was that a number of users (ok maybe only a few) have voiced interest in setting their precious Pies (looks better than Pis) adrift in near- or real space.

I wondered, "Would that actually work, or would the little cpu expire of extreme heat or cold?"

I'm not sure which sub-section to post it to. Can you make a suggestion? It's about 5 printed pages long and has a few embedded (and reduced) jpeg's. I can produce it as a docx, odt or pdf.

In some respects, working on this has been a busman holiday in that I test (or torture if you prefer) electronics for a living.
